Winter Kitesurfing with a family holiday?

Have you thought about getting away with the family but want some quality kitesurfing too, need a holiday that ticks all the boxes? You can also learn our fine sport at the same time? We checked out Hurghada in Egypt...

We took 5 kids away ranging from 1.5 to 17 and wanted a destination that would keep them all entertained, was safe, had great facilities, could go scuba diving and kitesurfing too. Too much to ask? We found it!
Jaz Bluemarine resort is connected to it's sister hotel Jaz Aquamarine in Hurghada, Egypt. Egypt has got bad press at the moment as it's close to the troubles in Iran/Iran. This does keep many tourists away, it's silly as London is more dangerous at present! With one main road into the area and one out, a military base in Hurghada, police presence on the streets, many friendly hotel security and the fact tourism is Egypts main industry, they do tend to protect the industry/holiday makers with every thing they can.  This protection is not highly visible but there to keep you safe.
The hotels are joined seamlessly giving you a massive complex to enjoy. About 20 different swimming pools with half of them heated and even specialist baby ones too. Four different areas of water slides for the young right too the young at heart! Many restaurants, bars, shops, spa, gym, entertainment areas, dive centre, big beach area with coral reef and massive tidal lagoon that is just perfect for Kitesurfing. So much to see and do here for all ages and being an all inclusive hotel, it's just worry and stress free. All seven of us found what we needed over 10 days for a perfect holiday.
Now to the selfish bits! The kitesurfing is good with big tidal lagoon, you have to kite when the lagoon is filled so this does exclude low water ( at low water a boat can take you to a local island so you can still kite easily) but this isn't a problem at all. The rest of the time you get a massive, sheltered lagoon of knee to waist high water that has a sandy bottom, it's just perfect and right where you stay. You can easily kite to the reef giving a few very small waves and there is some close islands that can also be kited for the more adventurous. Add this to Egypt's thermal winds and this spot does have it all! The video above is me kiting the lagoon right in front of Kitemarine, Hurghada.
On the no wind days there is a good coral reef to explore at the edge of the lagoon with many different species of fish. It is safe to snorkel out there just watch out for swell if windy and remember to take care not to touch the corals, it does kill parts of them off and can injure you. Some people were giving tales of cold up currents, dangerous conditions and nothing to see just before they try to sell you a £30 snorkel trip!! The snorkelling here is good and safe.
You can take the snorkel trips as they put you on a dive boat and take you to the better reefs, this is a full day at around £30. We did do this as I went for a scuba dive while my 10 yr old snorkeled above. For the more adventurous you can also make your way up and down the coastline trying different sites yourself for FREE! Just take care to find decent entry and exit points so your not clambering over coral, destroying reefs! We couldn't do this as had to keep all the family happy and to be honest, I wanted to spend lots of time with the kids this holiday.
So you want to learn to kitesurf, need a holiday or need to take the family away on holiday? Here you can combine it all! Kitemarine do offer a full range of IKO kitesurfing courses and do have some decent instructors with really good attitudes (this helps a lot, sometimes they can be a little too cool for school LoL!). You are able to learn to kitesurf in a big, safe, flat lagoon with a sand bottom and then spend some more of your holiday practicing, locking in that muscle memory. While you are away the family has more than enough to do making it a win/win situation.
This is a perfect spot to learn to kitesurf and to progress too. It is safe for beginners and flat enough to nail that new trick.
Overall a perfect holiday with great kitesurfing that has stoked my fire and rejuvenated my love for the sport. There is something about kitesurfing in a rash vest and board shorts, the freedom and when you do go down the water is really warm compared to the UK. Great people and good friendly vibe. What are you waiting for? Book your holiday, get away with the family knowing they will be very happy while you sneak some wonderful water time!

Thank you to Kitemarine Hurghada for your friendly welcome and support over our 10 day holiday. It was a pleasurable time and helped me find some kite love once more.
